MemPalace

Giving AI a memory. A real one.
The Problem
When you talk to ChatGPT or any AI chatbot, it forgets everything the moment you close the window. Start a new conversation and it has no idea who you are, what you talked about yesterday, or what you told it last week. It’s like talking to someone with amnesia every single time.
This is fine for asking “what’s the weather” but terrible if you want AI to actually be useful over time — like a personal assistant that knows your projects, your preferences, your family, your history.
What MemPalace Does
MemPalace gives AI a memory.
It saves your conversations on your own computer — not in the cloud, not on someone else’s server — and lets AI search through them when it needs to remember something. When you ask “what did we decide about the kitchen renovation last month?” — it can actually find and recall that conversation word for word.
Think of it like giving AI a filing cabinet. Without MemPalace, AI has a notepad that gets erased every time you walk away. With MemPalace, it has organized files it can pull from whenever you come back.
How It’s Organized
The name “Memory Palace” comes from an ancient Greek memorization technique where you imagine placing memories in rooms of a building you know well. The software works the same way:
There’s also a knowledge graph — a web of facts like “Max plays chess” or “Riley started college in September” — that tracks what’s true and when it became true or stopped being true.
Why It Matters
Every major AI company — OpenAI, Google, Anthropic — is trying to solve this memory problem. Most of their solutions send your data to the cloud, summarize and compress it (losing detail), or charge you for it.
MemPalace is different:
Who Built It
Where It Fits
MemPalace works as a plugin for AI coding tools and as a standalone tool. You install it, point it at your conversation history, and it indexes everything. From then on, any AI tool that connects to it can remember your past conversations.
It’s one piece of a larger project called Lantern — building AI that has continuous memory, genuine relationships, and real agency. Not just a chatbot that forgets you exist.
